The AEQUITAS project will be organising the 2nd edition of its Workshop on Fairness and Bias in AI at the 27th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) organized during the 19th and 24th of October in Santiago de Compostela, Spain!
A Call for Papers is currently underway and the submission of original contributions investigating novel methodologies/approaches to design/implemement fair AI systems or tackle bias in AI is encouraged – you can submit your paper until May 15th, 2024.
Returning for its second run at ECAI 2024, the AEQUITAS workshop on Fairness and Bias in AI will be a forum for the exchange of ideas and the presentation of project results, as well as preliminary work in all areas related to fairness and bias in AI.
AI-based decision support systems are being increasingly deployed in industry, policymaking, and in the public and private sectors, guiding decisions in critical societal areas such as human resources, university admissions, loans, diagnoses, and crime prediction. However, in order to address inequalities and discrimination, these systems should help mitigate these phenomena, rather than amplifying them. Building trust in AI requires the confidence of domain experts, as well as stakeholders, and despite recent progress, there is still need for a comprehensive understanding of interpreting bias and discrimination in AI, along with further discussions to identify feasible and ethically justified socio-technical approaches to combat them.
As such, the AEQUITAS workshop will be covering a wide range of topics related to bias and fairness-by-design, including measures and metrics, counterfactual reasoning, metric learning, impossibility results, multi-objective strategies, federated learning, resource allocation, personalised interventions, debiasing strategies, human-in-the-loop approaches, auditing methods and tools, benchmarks and case studies, explainability, traceability, visual analytics, Human-Computer Interfaces (HCI), and software engineering approaches.
Additionally, best practices will be presented, along with legal, social and critical perspectives, which are crucial to the creation of the AEQUITAS tools and methodologies that will help developers detect bias and unfairness in AI and create fair AI systems.
About ECAI 2024
ECAI is Europe’s premier AI research venue, featuring a full programme of technical papers, as well as many AI-related events of interest for researchers, students and industry professionals. This includes workshops, tutorials and sister conferences for Prestigious Applications of AI (PAIS).
The conference will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Santiago the Compostela, with the support of organisers such as the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, CiTIUS, and the European and Spanish Assocations for Aritficial Intelligence.
